Zoroastrianism is founded by Zoroaster in Persia (now Iran)

 

Around 500 BCE

 

Zoroastrianism spreads throughout Persia and becomes the official religion

The Parthians adopt Zoroastrianism and mix it with other religions

651 CE

 

Sassinian Empire falls to Arab Muslims, who start persecuting Zoroastrianism.

224 - 651 CE

 

Ardashir I, founder of the Sassinian Empire, makes Zoroastrianism the official religion, promoting and regulating it. A ritual hierarchy is formed, with chief priests and a supreme priest. The Avesta is compiled and written down.

7th - 10th century CE

 

Zoroastriniasts are persecuted, humiliated, harrassed, and even labeled impure by Muslims. Under the heavy persecution, most Zoroastrianists convert to Islam.

910 - 950 CE

 

A community of Zoroastrianists, Parsis, escape to India to avoid persecution. They establish themselves as the Parsees.

10th century - 1890 CE

 

Persecution continues

1383 - 1393 CE

 

A Muslim Turk called Timur the Lame conquers Persia. Many uprisings and rebellions occur, so Timur massacres and destroys many cities.
